In April, Myanmar-based Yoma Micro Power, founded in 2015, raised $28 million made up of equity and debt financing. A push for cell tower deployment requires remote microgrids to power the towers, which in turn act as anchor clients. The need for increased mobile phone connectivity, which was at 10% coverage in 2014, has been one of the key drivers for remote microgrid deployment. The government is prioritizing the provision of electrical infrastructure and has opened up foreign companies’ participation, allowing up to 100% ownership on any remote microgrid project. Out of all the countries in Southeast Asia, Myanmar has the highest percentage (60%) of communities without access to electricity. Whilst some countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam have seen more of a focus on grid extension, other countries are looking to remote microgrids as a key solution: Myanmar, Indonesia and Philippines. The participant list provides a snapshot of the players who are looking to penetrate the regions markets in the coming years. ![]() A consortium of international corporations, as well at the Nanyang Technological University, have partnered together to test and demonstrate a range of solutions suitable for deployment in Southeast Asia. ![]() The multi-million microgrid effort is expected to facilitate the development and market penetration of the energy technologies, recognizing that remote microgrids will increasingly become key to addressing the need for better and more affordable energy access. The Singapore-based Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator ( REIDS) is aiming to improve quality by bringing more affordable access to energy across Southeast Asia. Global Climate Scope expects Southeast Asia to spend $14 billion to reach universal electricity access by 2030, with 75% of off-grid population mostly served through remote microgrid systems. For locations served by the grid, total daily supply rarely surpasses 18 hours. In countries such as Indonesia and Philippines, it is a major challenge to provide electricity to communities living on remote islands, and geographical factors make it difficult to connect macro-grids. Standard screen pixel density categories Abbreviation ![]() ![]() The table below shows the defined categories of display pixel densities. However, the industry has some agreement on what is considered low, medium, and high pixel densities. The actual density will vary depending on how far your eyes are generally from the screen, but a PPI of 300 is generally enough density when viewing from 12″ away.Īt this point, you might be wondering what a good screen density value might be? A “good” PPI density will vary depending on the use of the screen and the individual user.įor example, a computer monitor viewed very closely might require a higher pixel density than a small TV. Retina is a brand name trademarked by apple and refers to a display with a pixel density such that the individual pixels are discernible to the human eye. DPI is also used when referring to the computer mouse sensitivity and how far the mouse cursor will move on the screen for a given distance of actual movement. The 16:9 aspect ratio is commonly known as the widescreen aspect ratio for most televisions and computer screens. While pixels per inch is a measure of screen density in pixels, dots per inch is a measure of the density in dots.ĭots, sometimes also called points when referring to a screen, might encompass multiple pixels or might be smaller than a pixel depending on the resolution and pixel size.ĭPI is most often used when measuring the resolution of a printer, which prints in dots rather than 1:1 to the pixels of the screen. Enter here your desired width for the image or video to get the actual height needed to maintain the HD 16:9 aspect ratio when resizing it. Thus, screen pixel density in pixels per inch is equal to the pixels along the diagonal d p divided by the diagonal in inches d i.ĭots per inch, or DPI, are very similar to pixels per inch, but they are slightly different. Given the diagonal measurement in pixels and inches, use the following formula to calculate PPI. For instance, the width in pixels of a 1920×1080 screen is 1920, and the height is 1080. The width in pixels is equal to the first part of the screen’s resolution, and the height is the second. In other words, the diagonal pixels d p is equal to the square root of the width in pixels w squared plus the height in pixels h squared. Given the screen’s resolution, you can find the number of pixels along the diagonal using the Pythagorean theorem. This might seem complicated, but you can use the Pythagorean theorem to find this using the screen’s resolution. The second step to calculating PPI is finding the total number of pixels along the diagonal measurement. Or, simply use our screen size calculator to find the size. If not, measure the diagonal from one corner to the opposite corner using a tape measure. Most displays, screens, monitors, and televisions are sold by their diagonal measurement, which should be marked on the screen or its documentation. The first step to calculate PPI is to measure the screen’s diagonal size in inches. There are three steps to calculating a screen’s PPI. ![]() ![]() For tonight I fear you’ll have to wait on yourself to a great extent. You have the file with you, of course? And the Kodak prints and records? Noyes put your valise in the hall-I suppose you saw it. I can’t say how glad I am to see you in person after all our many letters. You know what I wrote in my last letter-there is so much to tell you tomorrow when I shall feel better. Noyes must have told you but I could not resist having you come just the same. Wilmarth, I presume? You must pardon my not rising. The accent was by no means a rustic one, and the language was even more polished than correspondence had led me to expect. It was a hard whisper to catch at first, since the grey moustache concealed all movements of the lips, and something in its timbre disturbed me greatly but by concentrating my attention I could soon make out its purport surprisingly well. Was it not enough to break any human being-even a younger man than this intrepid delver into the forbidden? The strange and sudden relief, I feared, had come too late to save him from something like a general breakdown. I felt that there must be something more than asthma behind that strained, rigid, immobile expression and unwinking glassy stare and realised how terribly the strain of his frightful experiences must have told on him. I had studied the Kodak picture repeatedly, and there could be no mistake about this firm, weather-beaten face with the cropped, grizzled beard.īut as I looked again my recognition was mixed with sadness and anxiety for certainly, his face was that of a very sick man. Dim though the light was, I perceived that this was indeed my host. Within its shadowy depths I saw the white blur of a man’s face and hands and in a moment I had crossed to greet the figure who had tried to speak. For a moment the closed blinds allowed me to see very little, but then a kind of apologetic hacking or whispering sound drew my attention to a great easy-chair in the farther, darker corner of the room. There likewise appeared to be some faint, half-imaginary rhythm or vibration in the air. The room beyond was darkened as I had known before and as I entered it I noticed that the queer odour was stronger there. Refusing to let these cloudy qualms overmaster me, I recalled Noyes’s instructions and pushed open the six-panelled, brass-latched white door on my left. 40535 The Whisperer in Darkness - Chapter 7 H.P. ![]() Zip, to promote the use of ZIP codes, who was featured on stamps, commercials, and songs. Over the last hundred years, Western political economy has broadly experienced two major periods of breakdown and transition from one politico-economic paradigm to another. Politico-economic paradigms can exert a powerful influence over academic and media debates, as well as on policymaking institutions, both national and international. Such paradigms generally encompass political/economic goals, analytical/theoretical frameworks for understanding the functioning of economies and societies, narratives which describe and justify the goals and analytical framework, as well as economic and social policies, based on the analytical framework, that seek to achieve specific goals. We shall refer to a dominant group of ideas as a politico-economic paradigm. Modern economic history can be roughly split into different eras in which certain sets of ideas have dominated politics and policy. The final section assesses the degree to which economic and political conditions since the financial crisis offer an opportunity for a new paradigm shift away from neoliberalism. We then examine how the second of these, the shift to “neoliberalism”, occurred. We begin with an explanation of the concept of a “politico-economic paradigm”, with reference to the theory and history of the two paradigm shifts occurring in the 20th century. This paper seeks to understand the processes of paradigm shifts in economic ideas and policy. |
